The UL Vikings compete in the Irish American Football league (IAFL), and have one of the most successful clubs in Ireland in recent years.

American Football is instantly recognisable across the world, and is the fastest growing sport in Ireland. The IAFL season runs from March through to August and has teams spread right across the country.

The Vikings were founded in 1999, and since then have played in the IAFL's top game seven times, managing to take home the Shamrock Bowl on three occasions, the most recent win in 2009 against the Dublin Rebels. The Vikings have been ranked as high as 18th in the EFAF Top 20 and hold the honor of being the 2010 EFAF Atlantic Cup Champions, the first Irish team to ever win this competition.
