The UL Vikings are the defending Irish American Football Champions for the last three years. Played throughout the country, this entertaining and physical game is actually the fastest growing sport in Ireland. The league consists of 20 teams from 32 counties and our season runs from March to August. The Vikings are one of three college teams and were founded in 1999.
2010 could well be the most important year in the history of the UL Vikings. This November we are hosting the Inaugural College Bowl, an intervarsity competition which will pit Ireland’s college’s teams against each other. In February, we have been invited back to the ‘Paudi O'Se Football Festival’. Here we will play the NYPD and Philadelphia Blue Flame, an American Football team consisting of police and fire-fighters. After what is sure to be a great weekend the regular seasons begins. The Vikings are confident that we will retain our Shamrock Bowl title and aim to win the league title, a feat that has eluded us in recent years. Finally, we are also taking part in the Atlantic Cup, a major European tournament in June. It will be an eventful year to say the least! |
